PAHs Test
Due to the high carcinogenicity of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), the German government now mandates that all PAH related products sold in Germany must undergo testing for excessive PAHs. If you want to sell electronic and electrical products to Germany, you must pass the testing of professional inspection agencies!
PAHs are organic compounds produced through slow incomplete combustion or high-temperature cracking.
Possible materials for PAHs:
Commonly found in charcoal, petrochemical products, pharmaceuticals, dyes, plastics, rubber, pesticides (artificial), lubricants, rust inhibitors, film removers, capacitor electrolytes, insecticides, fungicides, mosquito coils, smoking, gasoline retarders (artificial), and other incompletely burned organic compounds.
The hazards of PAHs:
Strong carcinogens can damage the reproductive system, leading to skin cancer, lung cancer, upper gastrointestinal tumors, arteriosclerosis, and infertility.
Regulatory requirements for PAHs:
Has German GS certification LFGB;
EU countries 76/769/EEC;
USEPA in the United States;
China GB, GB/T, GHZ, etc.
The GS logo testing project requires PAHs testing on the following components and raw materials:
All materials with strong rubber or naphthalene (sanitary ball) odors must undergo PAHs testing: this odor is mainly caused by volatile naphthalene and methyl naphthalene containing polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. However, if the components or raw materials do not have this odor, they may also contain low volatility polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons;
All soft polymer materials (plastic and rubber materials) and black or dark hard polymer materials that may come into contact with the skin, such as switches, keyboards, pins, handles, and housing materials, must undergo PAHs testing;
Paint and anti-corrosion materials (naphthalene and methyl naphthalene): They increase the concentration of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons on the surface of the material;
Internal materials that have no odor and require contact with other tools may not be subject to PAHs testing.

In May 2019, the German Product Safety Committee (Der Auschuss f ü r Produktscherheit), AfPS has released a new standard for testing and evaluating polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in GS certification: AfPs GS 2019:01 PAK (the old standard was: AfPS GS 2014:01 PAK)。 The new standard will be implemented from July 1, 2020, and the old version of the standard will become invalid at the same time. The new version of the standard has mainly been updated in terms of testing items and product classification. The main updates of the new standard compared to the old standard are as follows:
1. Test project update:
The new version of the standard has removed three substances: acenaphthene (CAS No. 83-32-9), acenaphthalene (CAS No. 208-96-8), and fluorene (CAS No. 86-73-7), and updated the testing items from 18 to 15.
2. Product classification update:
